Four missions with a Marine reconnaissance team in northern I Corps, 1967–1968.
Sergeant Emmett Szabo's team, Weathervane, goes where the photographs show only trees. Across four books they walk the fog on Hill 861, the hedgerows north of the Trace, a monsoon valley west of Phu Bai and the burning ridges of the Khe Sanh pullout. Their scout is a North Vietnamese defector, and the same patient enemy officer is learning their habits the whole way.
