A rental SUV breaks down far from the highway on an old uranium-mining road, and the family inside walks away from it. In extreme heat, with almost no water, their tracks split in different directions, and one search becomes several.
Jack, Maya, Eli and Hondo follow them across open desert and into unstable mine workings. When a collapse separates Jack from the others, Maya has to handle Hondo on her own, and trust the dog to find a way the map doesn't show.
