Nine wounded. One unarmed helicopter. The request said four.
Specialist Ray Mendez is the medic on a Dustoff helicopter flown by Dale Rusk. He does every job correctly and in the right order, and Lieutenant Annie Mercer, the nurse who meets each load at the hospital door, keeps asking him the one question his reports never answer: when did the man start to go?
Then a Special Forces camp in the hills comes under attack at night. The request that reaches the aircraft says four urgent patients at the pad. By the time the correction goes out it is nine, at two places, and one of those places is only a direction a wounded scout gave before he could no longer talk. The crew has to fly an unarmed ship in to find them, in the dark and the rain.
