The mission changed before the first shot.
Maddox’s first combat assault begins with a quiet landing.
Enemy fire waits until the lead chalk is down, then drives away the rest of the helicopter formation and strands him with eleven men. The missing reconnaissance element is moving toward the same enemy-held ridge, diverted squads are split by a flooded stream, and mortar fire destroys the original extraction plan. Maddox must reunite three separated elements and seize the firing ridge as a new pickup zone.
To complete the mission, First Lieutenant Cole “Buck” Maddox must seize a small landing zone, locate a cut-off reconnaissance element, and bring it back before weather closes the air route. Success will not restore what the fighting takes from them.
