Four books of the early fur trade, and one young man from the lead mines of Missouri.
The Mountain Men follows Asa Crowder up the Missouri with William Ashley's company from 1822: the keelboat that sank, the fight at the Arikara towns, Hugh Glass and the grizzly, and the winter crossing that found South Pass. Ashley, Henry, Smith, Glass, Bridger and Fitzpatrick stand beside fictional companions, and a historical note in each book sets out what the record says and what the story adds.
