The camp asked for ammunition. It is getting a battalion instead.
Trang Luc, a camp in a border district, has been under attack long enough that nobody says how long any more, and it asks for mortar rounds. Captain Paul Keene and his counterpart, Đại úy Hoàng Văn Tín, are ordered to fly their Nùng Mike Force battalion in and hold it. There are six transports, the camp's own strip is not safe, and the plan is to land at a French rubber plantation and borrow the planter's trucks.
Tín carries a folded list of his soldiers' families. First Sergeant Lương Đức Hải walks the rows before every move, and his parrot still has not learned the phrase he wants. The road north goes through scrub, and when they reach the camp the question is no longer only how to hold it.
