The south tree line has not fired all morning. The high ground to the west has not fired at all.
Warrant Officer Tuck Malloy flies Bad Penny, a Huey gunship with the call sign Anvil Two-Five, with Danny Rios in the left seat and Cal Booker and Boone on the guns. They are covering an air assault into a Central Highlands valley for a company called Bootjack, and the landing zone goes hot on the first wave.
The gunships work over the knoll the crews call the Anthill, but a slick is hit well out past the west end, a long way from anything they have seen shooting. Then the lift is called off with part of Bootjack already on the ground. Malloy and Captain Vale keep coming back to a company holding in the valley while the ridge to the west shows them nothing.
